Association for Dental Education in Europe

adee_logo_Small_png_2010The Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) was founded in 1975 as an independent European organisation representing academic dentistry and the community of dental educators. Since then, ADEE has played an important role by enhancing the quality of education, advancing the professional development of dental educators and supporting research in education and training of oral health personnel.

Council of European Chief Dental Officers

CaptureThe Council of European Chief Dental Officers promotes dental public health throughout Europe. It was inaugurated in 1992. The Council aims to provide a forum for the exchange of views on dental matters which affect European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) member countries. It exists to offer advice to National Governments, to the Commission and others on matters affecting European dentistry through the creation and maintenance in 1992. European Association of Dental Public Health

The European Association of Dental Public Health was founded in 1996 as an international and independent science-based forum for professionals  having a special interest in dental public health and community dentistry. The objective of the EADPH e.V. is the promotion of dental public health, which is defined by the association as the science and art of preventing oral diseases, promoting oral health and improving the quality of life through the organized efforts of society.

European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) 

The European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) represents national periodontal societies in 29 European countries and more than 16,000 dentists dedicated  to  improving oral health and, in turn, general health and well-being through excellence in the practice of the discipline.The EFP was founded in 1991. EFP  national member societies actively work towards better recognition and a high standard of education and training for periodontology in European countries for the benefits of patients. The EFP is committed to evidence-based practice and quality assured education and training in the best interests of patients and communities. It organises events and campaigns grounded in evidence-based science on periodontal and oral health, including EuroPerio (the world’s leading congress in periodontology and implant dentistry) and the Perio Master Clinic (a more clinically  focused conference).

Oral Health Foundation

The Oral Health Foundation is an independent charity (not for profit)
dedicated to improving oral health and well-being around the world. For more than 40 years, it has continued to provide expert, independent and impartial advice on all aspects of oral health directly to those who need it most. It works closely with UK and European governments, dental and health professionals, manufacturers, the dental trade, national and local agencies and the public, to achieve our mission of addressing the inequalities which exist in oral health, changing people’s lives for the better.

Pan-European Region – International Association for Dental Research (PER-IADR)

The Pan-European Region of the International Association for Dental Research was founded in Belgium in 2013. It is a subsidiary of the International Association for Dental Research. The objective of the PER-IADR is to promote research in all aspects of oral and related sciences, by encouraging development of improved methods for the prevention and treatment of oral and dental diseases, by improving the oral health of the public through research, and by facilitating the cooperation among investigators and the communication or research findings and their implications throughout the Association.

Alliance for a Cavity Free Future (ACFF)

The Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future, a non-profitable charitable organisation, is led by dental experts who have joined forces to help implement changes to dental health practices across the globe, and works to stop the initiation and progression of caries. Their goal is to establish a cavity-free future for individuals of all ages. The group believes that global leaders, organizations and individuals need to collaborate to learn more about this early form of cavities. The group also believe in coordination in providing prevention and management strategies to help reduce the impact of caries.

Arbeitsgemeinschaft Zahnmedizin für Menschen mit Behinderung (German Association for Dentistry for Persons with Disability or Special Needs)

The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Zahnmedizin für Menschen mit Behinderung (AG ZMB) is registered as a charity in Germany. Its objective is to improve oral health in persons with disability. To achieve that objective AG ZMB is working on establishing European goals followed by joint actions. Its members include dentist, physician, dental student, medical student, dental nurse, dental hygienist or another medicical profession that is involved in health care for persons with disability. AG ZMB is mainly working in Germany and organizes annual congresses where research lectures and presentations for continuing education are given. Furthermore, dentists working in dental schools or in private practice are invited to present clinical cases.

Cochrane Oral Health

Cochrane Oral Health, a part of the not-for-profit organization Cochrane, publishes systematic reviews of the best quality research available to help people make informed decisions about oral healthcare choices. Their work is internationally recognised as high-quality, trusted information and is carried out by over 1600 members and over 900 review authors from more than 40 different countries.

European Association of Oral Medicine (EAOM)

EAOMThe European Association of Oral Medicine was founded in 1998 based on representations from a majority of European countries and some non-European countries. Their objectives are to improve clinical care in the field of oral medicine across Europe, to promote education and research in oral medicine across Europe, and to promote interest in education and research in oral medicine institutions, professional associations and industries.

European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (EAPD)

The European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry is an organization of individuals whose primary concern is in the area(s) of practice, education and/or research specifically related to the speciality of Paediatric Dentistry. Its purpose is to advance the speciality of Paediatric Dentistry for the benefit of the oral health of children.

European College of Gerodontology (ECG)

EFOSAThe European College of Gerodontology was founded in 1990. The objectives of the ECG at EU level are to provide a European forum for contact between all those sharing an interest in gerodontology; to foster international cooperation on research in gerodontology; to promote a multidisciplinary approach to gerodontology; and to provide a European body to which questions concerning gerodontology can be referred.

European Dental Hygienist Federation (EDHF)

The European Dental Hygienist Federation (EDHF) is a non-political federation for Dental Hygienist associations in Europe. The federation consists of 16 associations and was founded in 1999. EDHF represents 15,000 of the approximately 30,000 dental hygienists in Europe. A dental hygienist is a health professional who, through prevention, clinical services, education, consultative planning and evaluation, seeks to prevent oral disease, provides treatment for existing disease, and assists people in maintaining an optimum level of oral health. The EDHF’s goal is to strengthen the dental hygienist’s role in society in order to highlight the importance of good oral health during all different stages of life, in both health and illness.

European Dental Students Association (EDSA)

The European Dental Students Association was founded in November 1988. Now, it represents over 65,000 dental students in the European region. The goals of the organization are to inform students about the European Commission organization and politics in relation to dentistry, to promote, inquire and describe the standardization of dental curriculum within European dental schools, to promote exchange programs and encourage students to take part in these programs

European Federation of Orthodontic Specialists Associations

EFOSAThe European Federation of Orthodontic Specialists Associations was founded in 1977 as an umbrella organization for European National associations of orthodontic specialists. It unites associations or groups of orthodontic specialists or practitioners who have comparable education and working conditions as orthodontic specialists. The federation aims to obtain official recognition of orthodontic specialists in all countries in Europe and to provide and promote orthodontic treatment by orthodontic specialists of the highest quality in all countries of Europe according to the concept of quality improvement.

The European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC)

The European Forum for Primary Care was initiated in early 2005 by a group of interested parties from several countries. The aim of the Forum is to improve the health of the population by promoting strong Primary Care. This is done by advocating for Primary Care, by generating data and evidence on Primary Care and by exchanging information between its members. The Forum seeks to expand its membership and thereby to become a leading force for strengthening Primary Care in Europe.

European Orthodontic Society (EOS)

EFOSAThe European Orthodontic Society was founded in 1907. It aims to advance all aspects of orthodontics and its relations with the collateral arts and sciences for the public benefit. The Society seeks the furtherance of orthodontics amongst all branches of the dental profession working in private practice, hospitals and universities throughout Europe. It brings together each year at an annual congress orthodontists from all over the world.

European Organisation for Caries Research (ORCA)

The European Organisation for Caries Research is a scientific organization which promotes oral health through scientific research in the field of Cariology. The organization was founded in 1953 as an international organization based in Europe, and has brought together dental professionals from all around the world ever since.

The European Society of Endodontology (ESE)

The European Society of Endodontology (ESE) is a non-profit organisation with global reach. and impact focused on the broad field of Endodontology, that supports 36 national endodontic societies in 33 countries with around 7500 society members and 500 individual members, including those in training. The ESE was formed in 1982 and has a broad mission to support research, education and clinical practice in Endodontology and beyond; the ESE has a particular focus on enhancing and promoting the provision of endodontic care to save teeth and improve oral and general health; as well as supporting work investigating relationships between endodontic diseases and treatments and general health. A key objective of the organisation is to represent the discipline and act as a scientific consultant of Endodontology at a European and world level in order to influence national and international health policy in the best interests of dentists and critically patients.

Forum Zahn- und Mundgesundheit Deutschland (Forum Dental and Oral Health Germany)

The Forum Dental and Oral Health Germany was founded in 2012 together with the participation of dental and oral health professionals, trade associations, government organization and dental and oral health industries at large. The goal of the Forum is to improve the oral health of all people in Germany. In order to achieve this goal, the Forum aims at developing dialogue processes and recommendations to improve the approach to prevention and also to support appropriate pilot projects.

International Association for Disability and Oral Health (iADH) 

The International Association for Disability and Oral Health supports professionals and organisations working to improve the oral health and quality of life of persons with special healthcare needs. iADH actively advocates for better oral health outcomes for people with disability and other groups requiring special care dentistry around the world. iADH has produced curricula guidelines for education and training in Special Care Dentistry at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The association has an active research network promoting multi-centre research and organises research competitions and a biennial scientific congress to provide a forum for researchers and clinicians to showcase their work.

International Federation of Dental Hygienists (IFDH)

The IFDH is an international non-governmental organization, free from any political, racial or religious ties. It is incorporated and registered in the United Sates as a non-profit organization. It unites 34 Dental Hygiene organizations from around the world – 50% in Europe – in their common cause of promoting oral health, preventing oral disease and raising awareness of the systemic links between oral health and general health.  The IFDH promotes Social Responsibility, Education and Research, and Public Awareness to enhance these goals.

Ivoren Kruis (Ivory Cross)

The Ivoren Kruis (Ivory Cross) is the Dutch Society for the Promotion of Oral Health. The society had approximately 3.000 members, mainly dentists and dental hygienists. The mission of the Ivoren Kruis is the promotion of oral health at the level of the individual and the community by preventing disease. The Ivoren Kruis has the ambition to bring oral health in The Netherlands at a high quality level that enables every citizen from early into elder age to obtain and preserve a healthy mouth with sound teeth. It pursues its mission and ambition via the recommendation, stimulation and facilitation of research, policies, communications, networks and functional collaborations. It serves as a centre of knowledge and expertise which combines knowledge, expertise and experience to translate these into advices and interventions for preventive oral healthcare.

Mundo a Sorrir 

Mundo A Sorrir is a Portuguese Non-Governmental Development Organisation founded in July 2005 with the mission of promoting health and  oral  health as a universal right. Working with populations in situations of socioeconomic vulnerability, Mundo A Sorrir conducts its activities in Portugal, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe, through projects that enhance social inclusion and cooperation for development.

Its activity has been growing and gradually reinforcing its performance, having benefited more than 850.000 people and involved over 1700 Volunteers in its projects.

Russian Dental Association (RDA), Section “Prevention of Dental Diseases”

The Russian Dental Association (RDA) is the main Russian open association which counts 35,000 dental experts from more than 62 provincial branches over the country. The RDA arranges dental training including post-graduate education for dental specialists in Russia, promotes dental investigative works and leading experience gained by dental organizations, and helps bringing out the latest scientific researches in dental and allied fields. Since 2017, the “Prevention of dental diseases” Section of the RDA organizes and conducts the National Primary Prevention Program in Russia.

Union Française pour la Santé Bucco-Dentaire (UFSBD)

The UFSBD, French Union for oral health, is an umbrella organization of regional and local unions. It is the official organization of the French dental profession for prevention and oral health promotion. It is managed by dentists since 1966 and has fulfilled public health missions to improve the oral health in France. It is also acting as a WHO collaborating centre. The UFSBD membership is made up over 15000 dentists. The UFSBD aims to put oral health at the heart health and quality of life. Promoting and improving oral health contributes to improving global health as well as physical, mental and social well-being of the population. All dentists should be involved with health promotion and prevention of disease, especially for patients with chronic disease.
