Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe renews Chairmanship


Brussels, 18 February 2020 – Prof. Georgios Tsakos succeeded Dr. Nigel Carter, OBE as Chair of the Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe for a two-year mandate, on 1st January 2020, to carry forward the Platform’s Manifesto “Why Oral Health Matters”, launched in December 2019.

Georgios Tsakos, Professor of Dental Public Health at University College London, Chair-Elect and active member of the Platform since 2012, representing EADPH, became Chair of the Platform on 1st January 2020: “It is a great pleasure and privilege to succeed Nigel Carter, who raised the visibility of the Platform in Brussels over the past three years. I look forward to continuing our collaboration with EU policy-makers and fellow public health organisations in Europe, especially in the context of our new Manifesto. This addresses key issues in public health, in particular the fight against health inequalities and the implementation of health promotion policies. I am committed to working together with the Platform members to continue pushing this agenda forward over the next two years”.

Dr. Nigel Carter, OBE, was Chair of the Platform between 2017 and 2019, a time during which the Platform increased its presence and visibility in Brussels, through an active participation in various Joint Actions and published its Manifesto “Why Oral Health Matters”. “It has been a real pleasure to Chair the Platform over the past three years, seeing this culminating with the publication of our Manifesto “Why Oral Health Matters”, which provides us with a strong platform for advocacy over the next years. I look forward to supporting Georgios Tsakos as he takes on his new role and as the Platform contributes to the public health debate in Brussels”.
