Since 2010, the Platform for Better Oral Health in Europe has counted 5 founding members (ADEE, CECDO, EADPH, the Oral Health Foundation and PER-IADR). In 2023, the EFP was officially nominated as a Board member.
The Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) was founded in 1975 as an independent European organisation representing academic dentistry and the community of dental educators. Since then, ADEE has played an important role by enhancing the quality of education, advancing the professional development of dental educators and supporting research in education and training of oral health personnel.
The Council of European Chief Dental Officers promotes dental public health throughout Europe. It was inaugurated in 1992. The Council aims to provide a forum for the exchange of views on dental matters which affect European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) member countries. It exists to offer advice to National Governments, to the Commission and others on matters affecting European dentistry through the creation and maintenance in 1992. The European Association of Dental Public Health was founded in 1996 as an international and independent science-based forum for professionals having a special interest in dental public health and community dentistry. The objective of the EADPH e.V. is the promotion of dental public health, which is defined by the association as the science and art of preventing oral diseases, promoting oral health and improving the quality of life through the organized efforts of society.
The European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) represents national periodontal societies in 29 European countries and more than 16,000 dentists dedicated to improving oral health and, in turn, general health and well-being through excellence in the practice of the discipline.The EFP was founded in 1991. EFP national member societies actively work towards better recognition and a high standard of education and training for periodontology in European countries for the benefits of patients. The EFP is committed to evidence-based practice and quality assured education and training in the best interests of patients and communities. It organises events and campaigns grounded in evidence-based science on periodontal and oral health, including EuroPerio (the world’s leading congress in periodontology and implant dentistry) and the Perio Master Clinic (a more clinically focused conference).
The Oral Health Foundation is an independent charity (not for profit) dedicated to improving oral health and well-being around the world. For more than 40 years, it has continued to provide expert, independent and impartial advice on all aspects of oral health directly to those who need it most. It works closely with UK and European governments, dental and health professionals, manufacturers, the dental trade, national and local agencies and the public, to achieve our mission of addressing the inequalities which exist in oral health, changing people’s lives for the better.
Pan-European Region – International Association for Dental Research (PER-IADR)
The Pan-European Region of the International Association for Dental Research was founded in Belgium in 2013. It is a subsidiary of the International Association for Dental Research. The objective of the PER-IADR is to promote research in all aspects of oral and related sciences, by encouraging development of improved methods for the prevention and treatment of oral and dental diseases, by improving the oral health of the public through research, and by facilitating the cooperation among investigators and the communication or research findings and their implications throughout the Association.
